Returns & Refunds

Your Consumer Protection Act rights on pre-owned watches, our twelve-month warranty, and exactly how returns and refunds work.

Every watch we sell is authenticated by our preferred watchmaker, serviced where required, and covered by our twelve-month mechanical warranty, extendable to 36 months when you register a qualifying purchase. If something is not right, this policy explains your rights and exactly how we make it right. Nothing in this policy limits any right you have under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 (the CPA) or any other law.

Your rights under the Consumer Protection Act

Under section 56 of the CPA, every watch we sell carries an implied warranty of quality. If your watch turns out to be defective, unsafe or not fit for its purpose within six months of delivery, you may return it and choose one of the following, at your election:

  • a repair of the watch at our cost;
  • a replacement of equivalent specification and value, where available; or
  • a full refund of the price you paid.

If we repair a watch under this warranty and the same failure recurs within three months of that repair, you are entitled to a replacement or a full refund. Returns under this section are at our cost and our risk: we arrange and pay for insured courier collection.

Pre-owned watches and fair wear

We sell certified pre-owned watches. The age, condition and any cosmetic wear of each watch are described honestly on its listing page and were available to you before purchase. In line with section 55(6) of the CPA, wear that is consistent with the age and disclosed condition of a pre-owned watch is not a defect. A fault in how the watch runs, keeps time or functions is a defect, and the rights above apply in full.

Cooling-off for purchases concluded at a distance

If your purchase was concluded electronically, for example arranged entirely over our website, email or WhatsApp without visiting us, you may cancel within seven days of delivery under section 44 of the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act, without giving a reason. The watch must be returned unworn and in the condition received, with all box and papers supplied. You are responsible for the direct cost of returning it, and we refund the full purchase price within thirty days of cancellation.

If your purchase resulted from direct marketing, you may cancel within five business days under section 16 of the CPA, and we will refund you in full within fifteen business days of the return.

Change of mind

Beyond the cooling-off rights above, the CPA does not require a refund where a watch is simply no longer wanted. We are collectors ourselves and we understand, so speak to us: where a watch is returned promptly, unworn and complete, we will always consider an exchange or store credit in good faith.

How to return a watch

  • Contact us within the applicable period at info@optimatime.com or on WhatsApp at +27 82 304 9919, with your name, the watch and your reason.
  • We confirm the return and arrange insured courier collection, or a hand-over at our Pretoria premises, whichever suits you.
  • Every returned watch is inspected and authenticated by our watchmaker on arrival, usually within five business days.
  • Approved refunds are paid to the account the purchase was made from, within ten business days of approval.

What is not covered

  • Damage caused after delivery by accident, misuse, water exposure beyond the watch's rating, or failure to follow care guidance.
  • Work carried out by any third party: opening, servicing or modifying the watch other than through us ends the warranty.
  • Theft or loss after delivery.
  • Straps, batteries and other consumable items subject to normal wear, unless defective on delivery.
