Warranty terms
Twelve-month mechanical cover on every watch we sell, extendable to 36 months when you register a qualifying purchase.
Every pre-owned watch sold by Optima Time is supplied with a 12-month warranty, starting from the date shown on the purchase invoice.
Our warranty is designed to cover what matters most: the proper mechanical and functional operation of the watch.
What the warranty covers
During the warranty period, Optima Time warrants that:
- The watch will keep time within the manufacturer's applicable specifications for that model.
- The movement will operate correctly.
- The watch's functions and complications will operate as intended and in accordance with the manufacturer's applicable specifications.
- Where a mechanical or movement-related fault covered by this warranty occurs, Optima Time will assess the watch and, where applicable, arrange the necessary repair at no cost to the customer.
As these are pre-owned watches, normal characteristics associated with the age and design of a particular movement are taken into account when assessing its performance.
What the warranty does not cover
The Optima Time warranty is a movement and functional warranty. It does not cover normal wear and tear, cosmetic deterioration or components external to the movement.
This includes, but is not limited to:
- Straps and bracelets
- Clasps and buckles
- Cases and case finishes
- Crystals
- Bezels
- Crowns and pushers
- Cosmetic damage, scratches, dents or wear
- Damage caused by accident, impact, misuse or neglect
- Damage resulting from incorrect operation of the watch
- Damage caused by unauthorised opening, adjustment, servicing or repair
Water resistance
Water resistance is specifically excluded from the Optima Time warranty.
Unless separately confirmed in writing by Optima Time for a specific watch, no guarantee is given that a pre-owned watch remains water resistant to its original manufacturer's rating.
Seals, gaskets and other components affecting water resistance deteriorate with age and use. Customers who intend exposing a watch to water are strongly encouraged to have its water resistance professionally pressure-tested beforehand.
Damage caused by water or moisture ingress is not covered by the Optima Time commercial warranty.
Three-year extended warranty
The standard 12-month Optima Time warranty can be extended to three years from the original invoice date in either of the following circumstances:
- Website purchase. The watch is purchased directly through the Optima Time website at the full advertised selling price; or
- Authorised retail partner purchase. The watch is purchased through an authorised Optima Time retail partner.
To activate the three-year warranty, the purchaser must register the watch on the Optima Time website after purchase.
To register your watch, send your invoice number and the watch's serial number to us on WhatsApp at +27 79 889 2717 or by email to info@optimatime.com.
The extended warranty provides the same mechanical and functional cover, and is subject to the same exclusions, as the standard 12-month warranty.
A purchase that does not meet the extended-warranty requirements remains covered by the standard 12-month Optima Time warranty.
Making a warranty claim
If you believe your watch has developed a fault covered by the warranty, please contact Optima Time before having the watch opened, adjusted or repaired elsewhere.
The watch will need to be returned to Optima Time for assessment.
Where necessary, the watch may be inspected by an appropriately qualified watchmaker to establish the nature and cause of the fault and whether it falls within the warranty.
If the fault is covered, Optima Time will arrange the appropriate repair.
Opening, altering or repairing the watch by an unauthorised third party may affect the Optima Time commercial warranty where that work has caused or contributed to the fault being claimed.
Consumer Protection Act
The Optima Time warranty is an additional commercial warranty and does not remove, reduce or replace any rights that a consumer may have under the South African Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008.
Where the Consumer Protection Act applies, the consumer retains all rights and remedies provided by the Act, including the statutory implied warranty of quality.
If any provision of this Optima Time warranty is inconsistent with a consumer's mandatory rights under the Consumer Protection Act, those statutory rights will apply.
In simple terms
We stand behind the mechanical operation of the watches we sell.
For 12 months, or three years where the extended warranty has been activated, the movement, timekeeping and functions of the watch are covered, subject to the terms above.
External components, normal wear and tear, accidental damage and water resistance are not included in the Optima Time commercial warranty.
